Artist Statement

I’m drawn to artwork that includes illusive space and holds mystery. My practice involves a meditative process including making marks and forms intuitively that reflect my current space and state of mind. These concepts present themselves as foggy, eerie atmospheres that show abstracted elements from my surroundings. There is space to explore, question, and reflect.
I create dreamscapes through mixed media collages and photography that play with depth, the interaction of forms, and translucent materials. When remembering dreams, some elements are easier to pinpoint while others gradually fade away. Layering a variety of translucent materials makes it apparent that something is present but obscured. My photography and collages correlate with each other in my practice. The photos influence the composition and the addition of geometric shapes show through as traces of structural surroundings. The collages influence the subtle details and eeriness in the surreal space of the photos. A minimal use of color within all of my work connects back to the idea that people recall little detail when thinking of their dreams, especially when it comes to color.
The work is intended to be open enough for the viewer to wonder. The combination of geometric and organic forms in addition to the hints of color draw the viewer in and keep them engaged through the depth and ambiguity of the composition. I want the viewer to approach my work questioning what they are really seeing.
